[Action: 1446 Mitchell]

[Any of the resident children will find Granny in the kitchen in the morning. Speaking to their drone daddy in no uncertain terms.]

Porridge is what I made. Ye can eat it or not, yer decision. Didn't make it fer you.

[Action: Mayfield Elementary]

[Granny glances down at the lesson plan someone handed her on her way in. And promptly tosses it in the rubbish bin]

Well we won't be talking about that. Apparently I'm expected to teach you lot, so we might as well learn something of use. Like what reality ought to look like.

[Action: Park]

[When class lets out, Granny can be found in the park cataloguing everything for future class purposes.]

[Sue raises her hand.]

Excuse me, ma'am... what do you mean by 'what reality ought to look like'?

Well it ain't like this town. Seems more useful to teach you lot to spot all the shenanigans than...

[Picks up the lesson plan]

Spotting commune-ists.

All the business in this town that ain't right and proper. Whole town's too tidy.

Date: 2011-10-04 04:10 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] waiting4prince.livejournal.com
Wouldn't it be more useful to see what really is here instead of what should be?

Date: 2011-10-04 04:12 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] atent-dead.livejournal.com
Exactly. What's really going on rather than what the town wants you seeing. All that tidiness is hiding plenty.

[Alright, now that that's been cleared up, Sue's excited to learn!]

So how do you do it? See through the shenanigans, I mean.

You start by asking questions. Like whether things should be so alike.

From: [identity profile] waiting4prince.livejournal.com
Okay... so you question what you see in front of you.

Then what?

THat's when you start looking closer, make sure it's not just the surface distractin' you.

From: [identity profile] waiting4prince.livejournal.com
Like trying to find something that sticks out from everything?

Date: 2011-10-08 10:00 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] atent-dead.livejournal.com
Exactly. Nothing is ever that tidy unless it's hiding something.

Date: 2011-10-11 04:53 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] waiting4prince.livejournal.com
So if it is hiding something, you need to find exactly what that something is, right? And then figure out what to do with it?

Not bad, yer catchin' on here.

From: [identity profile] waiting4prince.livejournal.com
It's probably a lot easier to say then do though. Do you have anything we could use to practice it? So we can have some experience for when we really need it?

The park is a good place to start from. Not much to learn just sittin' in here.

[YEAH JUST WALKING THROUGH THE PARK it's what people do here. hay fellow old person haaaaay.]

What are you doing?

Figurin' out everything that ain't right here.

From: [identity profile] uranophobe.livejournal.com
You must be quite busy, then. Wouldn't it be easier to make a list of everything that is right here?

Date: 2011-10-07 11:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] atent-dead.livejournal.com
That ain't going to get the children anywhere.

From: [identity profile] uranophobe.livejournal.com
The children? You're a teacher, then. And what, exactly, do you plan on teaching them?

Date: 2011-10-08 09:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] atent-dead.livejournal.com
Not the nonsense the town assigned. They need to learn about seeing through that.

Anyone who can't see through the smoke and mirrors of this place on their own doesn't deserve consideration. [He has a low respect for students; after all, he was once a college professor.]

You missed a leaf.

Only if you don't look close enough. Why all the note-taking, anyway?

For teaching the children to look close enough.

A very good lesson to teach, indeed. I know of many adults who could use such tutoring.

What reality ought to look like? I don't really know much about the 1950s or America... is this wrong, do you mean?

Reality ain't ever so tidy with every blade of grass the same height.

You've got a point there... The people who run Mayfield really do pay attention to detail...

And they still can't get it right.

From what I understand, it sounds like the people in power here are pretty disorganized, though. At least enough that they don't get along all of the time.
